Treatment Pitch

YOU WILL PRESENT YOUR TREATMENT PITCH ON FRIDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER

Your task is to write a treatment to pitch to the class. This is a professional presentation, so make sure your prezis / slideshow is accurate, informative and interesting....

Add a post onto your blog about the task and what you've researched so far. Upload the definition of a treatment, but you MUST also add a sentence or two about how you're going to present your pitch (ir make it personal to your group). You don't all want the same definition....

A treatment is a short outline of a media production designed to give a client or production team an overview of what the production might include based on a brief.

Treatments are written descriptions, but can also include sketches, mock-ups, images and other draft items designed to demonstrate the intention of a production.

A treatment is often used to “sell” an idea to a client. There is no hard and fast way to produce a treatment, although it is an integral aspect of the preproduction process.

Info in your treatment needs to INCLUDE:

· CONCEPT Background on your chosen song: the genre and style of the song, if it's been used in any adverts or other media texts
· Outline the concept of your video - are you creating a performance, narrative or concept and why? What ideas do you have for your video?
· What are the codes and conventions of your genre? (ie performance elements / wide shots of location / lighting ideas etc.)
· How do your ideas for your video link with the lyrics? Remember, you need to shock/surprise your audience, don't be too literal in showing an image of a train because a train is mentioned in the lyrics..
· AUDIENCE Who are your audience (demographics: age, gender, social interests etc.) What ‘feel’ do you want to provide for your audience and why? How will you appeal to your target audience?
· LOCATIONS Which locations have you researched (include primary and secondary images) and why have you chosen them?
· MESSAGES What is your 'angle' or message?
· What themes do you have running through your video?
· How will you use costume and make up to convey your messages
· Have you obtained the band’s permission?
You might like to use this opportunity to gain audience feedback: this is an excellent opportunity to hand out short questionnaires and ask for feedback from the audience.

Inspirational Advert

As good media students, you should be constantly on the look our for inspiration from a range of sources...

...The split screens and eye-line matches could be a creative way to shoot your video...

...and remember, your A2 exam requires knowledge of how you've you've used codes and conventions from real media texts in your own video, so get uploading....

Design a Mood Board

Design a Mood Board using words and images
Include:
• Photographs: PRIMARY and SECONDARY images of locations
• Costume, Fashion, Props, Instruments
Themes
Symbols and connotations
Inspiration from other music videos

Use KEY WORDS in your comments: mise-en-scene, atmosphere, settings of music videos, links between visuals and lyrics, representation, genre, audience etc...

FOR EXAMPLE

These images convey a gloomy, melancholy feel representing the feelings of confusion and feeling lost, music artists such as Coldplay tend to use mysterious backgrounds for the music videos and CD covers for songs such as Violet Hill where scenes of a violet grey sky are used throughout linking to the lyrics.
The graveyard represents death but could also symbolise emotions…
